First boutique Barnardo's offers feel-good shopping in fashionable Marylebone

Release Date: 27 Nov 2017

Barnardo’s has launched its first designer boutique-style store in one of London’s most fashionable shopping districts, giving customers the opportunity to pick up high-end items at affordable prices while feeling good about where the money is going.

The store, in Marylebone’s George Street, reopened on Saturday, November 25 following a two-week transformation, becoming the only Barnardo’s shop in the UK to be fitted out as a showcase for designer clothes, accessories and gold and silver jewellery.

Clean lines, subdued lighting, uncluttered rails, display cabinets, dramatic shop windows and special signage help to create a luxurious feel for the outlet, which is nestled among the top-end boutiques of Marylebone High Street and Marylebone Lane.

Many of the designer goods on sale are donated by loyal customers who live and shop locally. They know the Barnardo’s team will handle and assess each item carefully, ensuring it raises as much as possible to support the charity’s work with the UK’s most vulnerable children, young people and families.

The store’s designer focus has been driven by manager Eduardo Martins, who completed a degree in fashion and textile design in his home country of Portugal before moving to London in 2010. Soon afterwards he started working at the Marylebone Barnardo’s and his flair for fashion was given room to flourish.

Manager Eduardo Martins said:

I came in six years ago as a volunteer, then when I became a sales assistant I started helping to change the feel of the shop and creating new window displays.  I became the manager two years ago and since then the team and I have been pushing forward with our vision. I’m so happy that Barnardo’s is backing us with this new format and we’re able to go even further.

We have a really good understanding of designer labels and what shoppers are looking for. People know that Barnardo’s is a really good cause and when they donate goods to us, they’re confident that we’ll get the best value from reselling each item.

Customers were invited inside for the first time following the official reopening at 11am on Saturday, November 25.

Roy Clark, Barnardo’s Director of Retail and Trading, said:

Our redesigned Marylebone store is a stunning success that only enhances the retail environment in this luxurious pocket of London, and everyone involved should be very proud.

Of course, it’s not just about designer clothes and accessories. Every time someone buys or donates something through a Barnardo’s shop, they’re helping to fund our work in more than 1,000 services throughout the UK, building stronger families, safer childhoods and positive futures for those who urgently need our support.

Barnardo’s Marylebone store is at 7 George St, Marylebone, London W1U 3QH. It is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
