WhatsApp Statement

As the minimum age requirement for a WhatsApp user is lowered to 13 years old, our CEO Lynn Perry MBE has expressed her concerns.

Lynn Perry said: “Children are being exposed to dangerous and inappropriate content on social media and messaging platforms like Whatsapp every day.

“With that in mind, we’re really worried that the age limit is being reduced on Whatsapp before appropriate and effective measures are in place to prevent harmful content from reaching children. This is particularly concerning given that Whatsapp is an end-to-end encrypted service, meaning that law enforcement and even the platform itself cannot see the messages shared on there.

“It's essential that action is taken to keep children safe online, so they can learn, play and communicate with friends and family without risk of exposure to harmful content.”
