What we do
The Parenting Support Project (GenPMTO) is a preventative parenting programme designed to provide tailored support to eligible families. This project offers a valuable opportunity for families to:
- Access a high-quality parenting support programme, tailored to their needs.
- Receive up to £80 for completing pre and post workshop surveys and participating in the project.
- Help improve parenting support services for others.
- Contribute to research that supports the wellbeing of parents across the UK.
This project is a RCT (Randomised Control Trial) programme and in partnership with the Ending Youth Violence Lab.
What is an RCT?
A Randomised Control Trial (RCT) means that half of referrals will be randomly chosen to receive the GenPMTO parenting programme, delivered by Barnardo’s, and the other half will receive other programmes and support via their Local Authority.
This will enable our research and evaluation partners to assess the effectiveness of the Gen PMTO Parenting Programme, compared to other UK-based parenting programmes.
Referrals will first be screened by our team and then The Lab will be in contact regarding pre-workshop evaluation before referrals are then randomised.
After Randomisation a GenPMTO Practitioner will contact parents and/or primary caregivers who are allocated to the GenPMTO parenting program exclusively to confirm programme details and information.
If you are not referred into the GenPMTO programme, your borough lead will be in touch and inform you of the alternative programme you will be offered.
Please note that if you are not selected for the GenPMTO program at this time, you will not be referred to it in the future while we are in the RCT.
What is GenPMTO?
Generation Parent Management Training Oregon (GenPMTO) is a US-developed, evidence-based intervention designed to help parents strengthen families at all levels. The programme aims to strengthen parenting and promote positive results for parents/caregivers and their children. The model teaches parenting skills that encourage children’s cooperation and positive social behaviour, prevent, and reduce mild to severe behaviour problems in young people aged 8-14 at risk of getting involved in serious youth violence. This is a 14-week programme with ‘Online’ and ‘In Person’ sessions available.
