Barnardo’s Cymru response to the Welsh Government draft budget

We are concerned that the draft budget does not go far enough to protect children, young people and their families in the face of unprecedented need. This will have a very real human cost on the most disadvantaged families across Wales.

We believe the proposed cuts to early intervention and prevention work is short sighted, and detrimental, and will lead to increased costs further down the line.

We have repeatedly called for sustainable funding for support services to prevent problems escalating. Re-prioritisation of funding will create uncertainty for the sustainability of vital services across Wales.

Without secure funding we fear the ambitions for children and young people, set out in the Programme for Government, will not be achieved.
