Course summary

A two-day interactive course which qualifies participants as youth Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA England). On completion of the course all participants will be invited to join the Association of Mental Health First Aiders gaining access to a wide range of resources and learning opportunities.

Aims

To equip participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence and to support children and young people with mental health concerns.

Objectives

  • To have an in-depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing.

  • Introduce practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health including support for young people with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities).

  • To feel confident in reassuring a young person in distress.

  • To have enhanced your interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening.

  • Know how to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate.

  • Be able to support a young person with a long-term mental health issue or disability.

  • Have the tools to look after your own mental wellbeing.
