An informative and interactive one-day training session for professionals who support children who are seeking sanctuary.  The course combines the latest research and information with varied delivery methods to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills.

Aims

To help professionals working with children seeking sanctuary build awareness of their experiences and learn how to respond using a trauma-informed safeguarding approach.

Objectives

  • Consider the legal definitions related to children seeking sanctuary in the UK.

  • Discuss case law and the legal status applied to children seeking sanctuary. 

  • Consider the experiences and needs of children seeking sanctuary. 

  • Recognise the impact of trauma and its effect on children seeking sanctuary. 

  • Appreciate the cultural needs of children seeking sanctuary. 

  • Understand the effects of family separation on children seeking sanctuary. 

  • Explore the risks that children seeking sanctuary can face, including exploitation and trafficking. 

  • Consider culturally and trauma-informed safeguarding responses and support for children seeking sanctuary.
