About this service

*Covid-19 Update: BeFree is still open and welcoming referrals. Although we cannot currently meet with young people face-to-face or offer group work, we are available to support young people and parents/carers over the phone. We are working as flexibly and creatively as we can to ensure that young people who would benefit from our service are still able to do so.*

BeFree Positive Relationships is a Kent-wide service for 10–16* year old girls, including transgender individuals, who are at risk of experiencing unhealthy or abusive relationships. *If you would like to refer a young person over 16, please let us know as we may be able to accept them on an individual basis.

We offer one-to-one sessions based on the young person’s needs that explore self-esteem, healthy/unhealthy relationships, sexual health & consent (age appropriate), child sexual exploitation, risk-taking and keeping safe. We aim to:
> Deliver a non-stigmatising relationship & sexual education
> Build emotional health & resilience
> Empower informed choices about emotional & physical relationships

Upon completion of the programme, young people have the opportunity to engage with our mentoring volunteers. Please note, under normal circumstances, we can also offer group work sessions but are currently unable to do so.

Parent/carer session
> We can offer a session to parents/carers who wish to discuss issues surrounding their child

Anyone can refer to BeFree and risk factors for young people to access the service include:
> Experiences of/witnessing domestic abuse
> Forming inappropriate/abusive relationships
> Conceiving under the age of 18
> Early sexual activity
> Maintaining sexual health

We offer a confidential service, except in instances where we have concerns regarding safeguarding, in which case, we will explain to the young person our need to report these. For more information and for the BeFree leaflet, please email or call us.
