Want to help change attitudes?

Passionate about equality? Aged 16-25?

Use your voice to challenge harmful gender stereotypes and make real change.

We want to work with young people to challenge harmful ideas about women and girls. Right now, even though everyone’s talking about this issue, young people's voices and experiences are often missing. If it’s just adults talking to adults, we won’t get the change we need. We are looking to recruit a diverse group of young people who want to work alongside Barnardo’s.

The closing date for applicants is midnight on Sunday 18 January 2026.

Who we’re looking for

We're putting together a group of 10 young people aged 16-25 from across the UK. This is a voluntary opportunity for one year (January 2026 – March 2027). You must be able to commit to at least two online meetings a month plus attendance at events. Your travel and accommodation costs will be paid for.

Everyone is welcome. You don't need to be an expert on the topic, and we are very keen to make sure that all genders are represented. If you are a young man and you feel unsure about joining something like this, this group is simply a space to explore ideas together, learn from each other and make positive change.

If you need more information

You can read more about the project in our application guide. You're also welcome to talk to us.

We're hosting an online drop-in on Tuesday 6 January 2026 from 5pm-6pm. You can drop in at any point within that hour and ask your questions. Find out more about the drop-in. If you can't make that you can email us at [email protected] and we'll get back to you.

Getting your voice heard

Children and young people should have opportunities to have their voices heard and be taken seriously in decisions that affect them. When young people are involved, we know it leads to better decision-making and improved services.

Want some help to handle what life throws at you?

Everyone has mental health and it’s something we should all take the time to look after. Sometimes our thoughts and feelings can feel difficult to manage. If you’re struggling with how you feel, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
