Right now, children across the UK are struggling: issues around mental health, grief, wellbeing and loneliness are all compounded due to the pandemic. Your support could provide them with vital help.
Children and young people are feeling more stressed, worried and lonely than ever. With your help, we can continue to provide vital virtual therapeutic support so they can work through their feelings and find ways of coping with challenges.
Last year, we helped 358,800 young people and families cope with challenges – including grief, loss, loneliness and anxiety – many of which were only worsened by the pandemic.
Before Covid-19, we know that of 5-16 year olds, at least one child in every average class had been bereaved of a parent or sibling. With over 140,000 excess deaths recorded in the UK (at March 2021), we know that many more children and young people will be experiencing bereavement.
Just like the young boy in our recent TV advert, many children are experiencing feelings of loss and grief right now. Our dedicated project workers help many vulnerable children cope with complex issues, some of which have been compounded by the pandemic.
The hardships that children like Jessica experience take a damaging toll on their mental health.
After her dad died, Jessica’s life fell apart. She moved between care homes and even ended up sleeping rough. Going through such challenges without proper support she could rely on deeply impacted her wellbeing.
I felt unwanted. There was no one I could trust. I felt so alone.
No child should feel like life can’t get better. Your donation could help a child feel listened to, believed in, that someone’s always there to help them through their difficulties - however long that takes.
For every £1 you donate, we spend 92p on working with the children who most need our help. Income raised through this campaign will go where the need is greatest including mental health services.
These are difficult times for everyone right now, and that can sometimes be overwhelming. Through it all, we're here and we want to help children, young people and families in need. If you've been affected by the issues above, find out where to get help.
