Statement from Barnardo’s Northern Ireland – the cost of living emergency
Michele Janes, Director of Barnardo’s Northern Ireland said:
“The children and young people of Northern Ireland are currently looking into the face of another crisis – the cost of living emergency.
Without an Assembly, the children we at Barnardo’s Northern Ireland support are at risk of going hungry.
The families we work with will be cold. Our children will pay the price of political inaction.
“We have seen what is possible from the Northern Ireland Assembly since their return in January 2020. Having Northern Ireland politicians making decisions for the people of Northern Ireland was invaluable throughout the pandemic. At a time of crisis, our Assembly delivered.
“The determination and collaboration that passed a record amount of legislation in the last two years must be put to work again to make sure our children and families are not trapped by the rising tide of poverty.”
