Barnardo's has issued the following statement in response to the conflict in Ukraine
Barnardo’s Interim Co-CEO Michelle Lee-Izu said: “The lives of children, young people and families in Ukraine have been plunged into turmoil and we know that a huge number have been forced to leave and seek refuge in other countries.
“Many will be experiencing extreme trauma, having lost loved ones, seen their homes destroyed and attempted to flee to safety.
“Barnardo’s stands ready to support all children and families who arrive in the UK as refugees. This is in line with our mission, and our commitment for more than 150 years, to supporting the children who need us most, regardless of background and circumstances.
“We are working closely with partners, such as the Red Cross, which is providing assistance to the children and families who have left Ukraine, and we will continue to work closely with UK governments, local agencies and community groups to assist children and families arriving in the UK to recover from their harrowing experiences, access vital services and begin to build a brighter future.”
