Barnardo's Swansea Youth Homeless Prevention Service

What we do

The aim of the Youth Homeless Prevention Service is to ensure that young people and their families have the right support at the right time to overcome their difficulties and ensure that family breakdown is avoided where safe to do so. The Youth Homeless Prevention Advisor works with young people aged 16 to 21 to provide information, advice, and practical help to prevent homelessness. They will work with the young person, their family, and friends to offer solutions, recognising that some young people will need to make a planned move to supported accommodation. Young people can self-refer and professionals can refer directly to the team. For advice please call 07513703784 between 9 to 5 Mon to Thu and 9 to 4.30 Fri. The Youth Homeless Early Intervention School service works with comprehensive schools, colleges, and youth clubs throughout Swansea to provide Personal and Social Education (PSE) lessons to educate young people on the realities of homelessness and living independently and to promote the services of the Youth Homeless Prevention Advisor and the Home Support and Mediation help available to ensure early intervention for young people facing accommodation issues. The Service also provides school surgeries to give 1 to 1 advice to both pupils and school staff on accommodation issues. The Eviction Prevention service works with care leavers to provide assistance and support with the aim of addressing issues which may lead to eviction such as needing financial help, legal support, providing advice and representation, wellbeing, and tenancy management. The Eviction Prevention Worker can appeal notice to quit decisions, arrange for support to prevent recurrence of issues that are placing tenancies at risk and provide young people with the information required to better understand the broader housing situation in the local area.
