Course summary

This two-day interactive, online training course supports frontline practitioners to develop the knowledge and skills needed to assess and respond to risk when safeguarding children and young people.

You will learn how to use experiential learning cycles and supervision to strengthen your assessment practice and develop effective responses to identified risks.

Using a blend of delivery methods, including group work and case-based discussion, the course provides a practical and supportive learning environment to build your confidence and competence in being a reflective practitioner.

Aims

To equip participants with the essential knowledge, skills and confidence to assess and respond to risk in safeguarding work. It will enhance practitioners use of experiential learning and supervision when working with children and young people and their families.

Objectives

  • A refreshed understanding of key safeguarding principles and approaches.

  • To describe key elements of child development, the effects of trauma and the role of attachment theories.

  • Explain how reflective practice contributes to improved outcomes for children.

  • Use experiential learning cycles to support and enhance your work with children and families.

  • Assess and analyse information to form hypotheses that support professional judgments and develop child-centred plans.

  • Apply relevant research to current practice.

  • Explore how to use supervisory opportunities to develop and refine skills as a reflective practitioner.
