Remand and CSE foster care in the Midlands

What is remand foster care?

Remand foster care, also known as specialist foster care, offers young people aged 10-18 years a safe and supportive environment while waiting for court proceedings.

What is CSE foster care?

Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) care is another type of specialist foster care that supports vulnerable teenagers to reduce the risks of being exploited.

How long do remand and CSE placements last?

Remand placements can last from a few weeks to over a year and CSE placements usually last from three months to over a year.

How can I help?

A young person who finds themselves involved in the criminal justice system is likely to be nervous, distressed and scared. What they need most is a caring adult who can support, love and be there for them when things get tough.

“…all that these young people needed was a second chance. It can be difficult not to judge someone who’s been in trouble with the law, but they weren’t monsters. They just had no boundaries or support when they were growing up. They deserved some extra help and nurturing.” Bev, remand foster carer

Why should I foster with Barnardo’s?

As a Barnardo's remand carer, you have access to:

  • a generous and competitive fee; fees and allowances for remand foster care are calculated differently than for other types of foster care. Due to the requirements of the placements, remand foster carers receive 28 days paid leave (respite) and a year-round fee even if a young person isn’t placed with them
  • a dedicated social worker
  • 24 hour support
  • comprehensive training tailored to remand fostering
  • networking with other remand foster carers
  • organisational membership of the Fostering Network.
