Finding foster carers has never been more important.
Every child deserves a loving home, and the number of children needing foster care in the UK grew significantly during the pandemic.
In the 12 months from August 2020 to July 2021, the total number of children referred to Barnardo’s services in the UK for foster care shot up from 14,130 children to 19,144 children – an increase of 35.5% - compared to same time in 2019/2020. For sibling groups, there was a 31% increase in referrals.
Because of this, more foster carers than ever are needed to ensure we can place these children - particularly sibling groups - with the best family for them. We provide support every step of the way, from making an enquiry right through to after you have foster children living with you. These children need loving families from all backgrounds, religions, genders, ages and cultures.
Through fostering, you have the opportunity to make a positive difference to children's lives, and to your own!
When you make an enquiry about fostering with us, you are not making any commitments. A member of our team will call you back to talk you through the fostering process, answer any questions you may have and ask you a few questions about yourself and your motivation to foster.
Who can foster?
We welcome passionate people from all walks of life. If you are over 21, have a spare room, are a UK resident and have the time and commitment to support a child, you could be the special person they need.
When fostering with Barnardo’s, you also get financial support, including a carer’s allowance to help you as you make a positive difference to a child’s life.
A child or young person’s religious and cultural identity plays a huge part in their development. We are particularly looking for foster carers who can best support children from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background.
If you have ever considered welcoming brothers and sisters into your family through foster care, please get in touch with our expert staff for an obligation-free chat to find out more.
