This submission was prepared by Barnardo's Scotland for the Education and Skills Committee inquiry into the attainment and achievement of school aged children experiencing poverty.
Barnardo’s Scotland works with thousands of children and families every year, many of whom live in poverty and areas of disadvantage. We see the impact of this poverty on a daily basis in both the homes and communities of these families. Every day, families are waking up to profound problems: how to keep a roof over their head and how to put food on their table. This in turn generates profound challenges for all those who provide services to children.
