At Barnardo's, our goal is to achieve better outcomes for more children. To achieve this, we work with partners like the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland to build stronger families, safer childhoods, and positive futures. Barnardo’s Northern Ireland are pleased to respond to the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland's Strategic Plan for 2026-2030.

In preparation for the production of this Strategic Plan for 2026-2030, the Safeguarding Board sought to proactively obtain the views of children and young people, and parents and carers to help inform the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland (SBNI) Board of the direction and focus it needs to take into consideration.

Barnardo’s Northern Ireland welcomes the draft Strategic Plan and the opportunity for children and young people to inform the development of the Strategic Plan. We have heard from some of our young people involved that "I think it all looks really good!” and "I really like the way everyone's ideas have been listened to and implemented in this work. I don't think anything is missing”.

We look forward to continuing partnership with the Safeguarding Board to empower children and young people to thrive in safe, supportive environments.

Policy and influencing in Northern Ireland

We have first-hand experience of the issues faced by children and young people across Northern Ireland. We use that experience to campaign for change and influence government to achieve better outcomes for more children.

Barnardo's Northern Ireland

We all want to feel safe, happy, healthy and hopeful. Right now, too many children, young people and families in Northern Ireland don’t feel like this. We’re here to make sure your family, and children and young people across Northern Ireland have somewhere they feel they belong.

Consultation response on the Probation Board Northern Ireland's Corporate Plan 2026-2029

Barnardo's Northern Ireland fed back on the Probation Board’s Corporate Plan for 2026-2029. Our Parenting Matters service works in partnership with the NI Prison Service to provide parenting programmes and support in all four prison establishments and from 2015 to 2025, we delivered parenting programmes to parents and expectant parents on behalf of PBNI.
