Analysis of data from a national database of children affected by child sexual exploitation who are supported by Barnardo’s finds significant differences between male and female service users’ experiences. The findings show that while a third of victims are male, this varies considerably between services. Typically, male service users are younger than female service users at referral, are more likely to have a disability, to have a formal criminal record, and to have been referred by criminal justice agencies.
