Supporting young dads’ journeys through fatherhood

Type Research

Published on
1 January 2012

This research explores the perspectives of six young fathers (aged 16-24) supported by The Family Strategic Partnership (FSP), comprising Barnardo’s, Action for Prisoners’ Families, Children England, and The Family and Parenting Institute.

The research reveals blockages that occur when insufficient support is available and the opportunities arising when services respond effectively. Young people experiencing challenges in the transition to fatherhood struggle to cope with changes, financial hardship, and maintaining contact with their child. Young fathers benefit from integrated approaches to support from different agencies, brokered through a lead professional.
