Barnardo's statement on children attending schools with building safety concerns

Barnardo's Chief Executive responds to the developing story that many schools face closures due to safety concerns around building materials

CEO of Barnardo's, Lynn Perry MBE, said:

“This is really concerning news and whilst the safety of children and teachers must be a priority, this will be really unsettling for lots of children who will have been really looking forward to starting or getting back to school. For some who will have to learn remotely, it will also feel similar to the lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s important there is appropriate support for those children and their parents and carers who now need to learn at home – building on the learning from the pandemic – to ensure they don’t fall behind in their education and it must be an absolute priority to get these children back to school as soon as it’s safe to do so.”
