Barnardo's has responded to the Home Secretary's 'A Fairer Pathway to Settlement' announcement from earlier this week.

Lynn Perry, chief executive of Barnardo's, said: “These new proposals mean that a family could come to the UK and work for 15 years or more, but be left with no right to claim benefits or social housing if they were to lose their job. This could result in children living in poverty with a huge impact on their future life chances.

"The government is rightly committed to reducing child poverty and to help achieve this we are calling for an exemption for families with children under 18 from the ‘No recourse to public funds’ (NRPF) condition.

"All children living in the UK need and deserve care and protection and this must be at the heart of all decisions. ”
