Time to end the two-child limit

Lynn Perry, chief executive of Barnardo’s, said: “Ending the two-child limit on benefits would lift half a million children out of poverty.

"The policy works by restricting the amount of Universal Credit given to families for their children. It means that some children are going for days without a hot meal, sleeping in rooms covered in black mould or going to school in shoes that don’t fit.

“Without immediate action, child poverty will simply continue to rise. Hundreds more children will be pulled into poverty with every week this continues.”

“Investing in children is one of the best things we can do for their future – and for the future of our country. It’s time for the government, and all our elected politicians, to demonstrate their commitment to future generations by taking meaningful action now.”
