Chief Executive Lynn Perry responds to NHS report
Following the publication of Lord Darzi's report on the state of the NHS, Barnardo's Chief Executive has released a statement.
She says: "We’re concerned that a generation of children face being let down by a health system that’s failing to meet their needs. With almost a million children waiting for hospital treatment, lengthy delays in A&E departments and a worrying rise in the number of reported eating disorders, it is clear that urgent action is required.
“The cost-of-living crisis is only exacerbating this situation, with the impact of poverty leading to more children needing hospital treatment for issues like malnutrition and poor oral health. Not only this, but the average height of a five-year-old in the UK has slipped 30 places in the world rankings due to poor diet and living standards.
“We’re encouraged by the prime minister’s focus on tackling this situation. We urge the government to expand mental health support to all schools, and make sure that children and young people can access community support for their health and wellbeing, no matter where they live.”
