Are you aged 11-25 and living in Bristol, South Gloucestershire or North Somerset? Do you want to get involved with Barnardo’s HYPE to improve health services for young people?

You will start your journey as a health champion by meeting with one of our project workers. This is an opportunity to ask questions and share what is important to you. If you then want to join one of our councils or campaigns, the project worker will support you to settle in, meet other young people and share your ideas.

You will earn vouchers and online badges from your very first meeting including our Get Involved with HYPE badge and Health Champion Badge.

As you get more involved, we will support you develop new skills. This might include meeting and working with NHS leaders, public speaking, interviewing new NHS staff or doing creative campaigns including films, social media or art.

All our activities are adapted to how you want to get involved, your ideas and what you feel comfortable with.

Young people's health manifesto

Our agenda for change:

  • We want health workers who really listen.
  • We want to receive individual care...one size does not fit all.
  • We want to be able to access support with mental health and other health worries at school, college and university.
  • We want to be able to get help in a crisis, at any time.
  • We want health services with a diverse workforce that fully meets the needs of black and brown young people, and LGBTQ+ young people.
  • We do not want to be left on waiting lists.
  • We want to be involved in developing online support and in creating digital and social media.
  • We do not want to be stigmatised or bullies because of our health or support needs.
  • We want to know that services are confidential.
  • We want everyone to know their rights and entitlements.
