Babies growing up in poverty deserve the right start, right now.
Right now, over 1.2 million babies and toddlers in the UK are living in poverty.
For some families, that means not having enough money for food, formula, nappies, or other essentials.
For others, it means making impossible choices - like skipping meals themselves so their baby can eat.
Poverty at this stage doesn’t just make life harder for families - it can affect a baby’s health, growth, development, and limit their future opportunities. The earliest months and years are critical, and missing out on proper nutrition, warmth, or care can have effects that last a lifetime.
But together, we can give babies a fair start in life.
We needed warmth, and we needed food. It’s such a struggle. Sometimes it feels like I’m trying to make ends meet from all different angles. With help from Barnardo’s, I’ve been able to get some new clothes for my youngest which has really taken the pressure off.
