Thinking of adopting and fostering?

Long-term care

career and child playing

Long-term care is when a child or young person lives with carer(s) on a long-term, full-time basis. Fostering is a different experience for everyone but sharing your home with someone else's child includes being loving, caring and tolerant.

It means caring for a child plus:

  • carrying out an agreed programme to fulfil a child's potential. Keeping a written record of the child's progress
  • working in partnership with birth families
  • receiving the advice, guidance and support of Barnardo's social work and psychology services. This would include attending training meetings and reviews of the child, schools and medical services.

There will be payments of a professional fee and a fostering allowance.
