Barnardo's Professional Fostering

Barnardo’s Professional Fostering Service has been recruiting and supporting carers in Northern Ireland for almost thirty five years.

Many of our carers provide full-time, long-term placements to children. Some carers provide short-term or emergency placements and others provide regular planned short breaks to children living in long-term placements.

Specialist services

We work in close partnership with Barnardo’s Children’s House, a children’s home for primary school aged children. The home provides children with a period of stability, to prepare them for living with a foster family until they are ready to move on.

Our carers tell us that it is the high level of preparation, training and 24 hour support that helps them to provide a safe, secure and loving home for the children who need it most. In this environment a traumatised child can begin to fulfill their potential and thrive.

We take time to carefully match children to carers and most of our long-term placements last until the child is well into their teens.
