Chancellor Jeremy Hunt delivered the Budget today, in which he announced that the Household Support Fund, which was due to end on March 31, will be extended for a further six months.
Lynn Perry MBE, Chief Executive of Barnardo’s, said:
“Today’s Budget announcement wasn’t good enough.
“Whilst we’re delighted to see the Household Support Fund – a lifeline for so many children and their families – extended for six months, this still leaves many facing a cliff-edge in September.
“Children and young people today are forging their futures against a background of huge uncertainty and disruption. Aspects of their lives have changed beyond recognition in the past few years, with the impact of the pandemic, and then the cost-of-living crisis exposing – and increasing – the inequalities in society.
“They deserve a long-term strategy to secure their futures.”
