Our work to prevent Child Sexual Exploitation
What is Child Sexual Exploitation?
Child sexual exploitation is a form of child sexual abuse.
It occurs where an individual or group takes advantage of an imbalance of power to coerce, manipulate or deceive a child or young person under the age of 18 into sexual activity (a) in exchange for something the victim needs or wants, and/or (b) for the financial advantage or increased status of the perpetrator or facilitator.
The victim may have been sexually exploited even if the sexual activity appears consensual.
Child sexual exploitation does not always involve physical contact; it can also occur through the use of technology. (Source:NWG Website)

What we do
Direct work with young people
ReachOut offers support to young people through bespoke weekly sessions based on their individual needs. These sessions typically include work on healthy relationships, keeping safe online, sexting and the law, grooming and consent.
In addition to specific CSE work we work with children to reduce their vulnerabilities and promote their resilience.
Our work with schools
ReachOut has been delivering Barnardo’s Real Love Rocks preventative CSE programme developed as an age appropriate resource at both Primary and Secondary School level. The programmes focuses on peer to peer grooming, e-safety, self-harming and suicide, body image and sexual health awareness.
ReachOut also provides bespoke creative responses to presenting issues within different school including assemblies addressing such things as sexting and sharing of inappropriate images.
The mobile unit enables ReachOut to have a visible presence in priority areas and other key locations and events across the town. The mobile unit is used as part of the Outreach offer and enables the Team to engage with young people within their own communities.
Direct work can also take place on the unit, for example, CSE awareness raising and 1:1 confidential support.
ReachOut also supports partner agencies with engagement at their sessions in different priority locations.
ReachOut provides CSE training and workshops to professionals and community groups but also provides training and practice development opportunities relevant to their work.
