Debbie and Louise

Louise Street and Debbie Gasston

Louise was born in Grenada, in the Caribbean, in 1938 to a large Muslim family.

She travelled by boat to England when she was 19, and was allowed to stay on the proviso she got married. In this conversation with her daughter Debbie, Louise talks about her journey here, her experiences in England, how they maintained their Caribbean culture through family, food and music, and the racial targeting she and her brothers experienced.

In this interview, our colleague Debbie interviews her mother Louise about their experiences of life in England.
