Volunteering with us

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, build confidence and gain skills and experiences that may be useful to you in the future.  Volunteers are valuable members of the Barnardo’s team and all staff and families are grateful for the support they offer.

I love being a volunteer because of the satisfaction I get from seeing a smiling child, helping other families or from listening to someone who just needs to talk to somebody else. I love the fact that I can just give a little something back to help others” - Volunteer Kerry.

Who Can Volunteer?

Barnardo's is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for everyone who wants to volunteer with us. We aim to find a volunteering role to suit the individual, but all volunteers at the Family Centres will have contact with children and must undergo screening

How much time would I need to commit?

We prefer a minimum commitment of two hours a week, for at least six weeks.  However, many of our volunteers have been with us for a long time and offer a lot more than this, because they enjoy it so much.

Most of our volunteering opportunities are only available on weekdays during peak times (9am to 4pm). We are not currently recruiting for evenings and weekends.
