What we do

In partnership with Blackpool Council, Blackpool Children’s Fund, Blackpool Youth Offending Team, Sure Start , NLDC, Big Lottery, Wyre Borough Council and Fair Share  we offer a wide variety of services reflective of Barnardo’s overarching aims and local circumstances:

  • helping children, young people and families make their lives better and fulfil their potential
  • 'giving children back their future'
  • helping  families cope with a wide range of issues including poverty, abuse and homelessness
  • promoting the involvement of children, young people and their families in community life - helping them to identify issues in the community they feel strongly about and to devise solutions that will contribute to local regeneration
  • making sure that children can make the most of their childhood, whatever the circumstances.

PARENTING (Youth Offending Team)

The Parenting Team offers a service to parents of young people, aged between 10 and 17, who are receiving a service from Blackpool Youth Offending Team (YOT).

What do we do?

  • Assessment – used to identify support required by parent.
  • One-to-one intensive support – to address issues identified during the assessment.
  • Groups – courses exploring issues around parenting, such as the role of parents, listening and communication within the family.

FAMILY SUPPORT WYRE

The Family Support team targets children, young people and families identified as being vulnerable and ensure that they receive support when they need it, thus avoiding an increase in risk and, in the end, statutory intervention.

What do we do?

  • Assessment – used to identify support required by families.
  • One-to-one intensive support – to address issues identified during the assessment.
  • Drop-in Sessions – for parents to call in to discuss issues and access the service.

FAMILY LEARNING

The Family Learning Team offers support for families to get involved in creative activities, in partnership with Blackpool Council’s Adult Learning Department.

What do we do?

  • Support – to enable families to overcome issues that might prevent them participating in opportunities for learning together, such as kite-making, puppet-making, filming and other creative activities.

FAMILY SUPPORT (Parents aged 19 and under)

The Family Support Team offers support to parents aged 19 and under, in partnership with Blackpool’s Children’s Centres.  

What do we do?

  • Assessment – used to identify support required by parent.
  • One-to-one intensive support – to address issues identified during the assessment.
  • Groups – for parents to provide social and networking opportunities, as well as offering input from relevant services.
  • Parents with Prospects – an accredited course that promotes skills in parenting, child safety and bonding & play.

OUTREACH & LEISURE

The Outreach & Leisure Team offers play, sports and informal educational activities for children and young people aged 5 to 18.

What do we do?

  • Groups – a range of groups offers play, sport, games, art & crafts, trips and occasional project work.
  • Different programmes run during term-time and school holidays.
  • Blackpool Voluntary Youth Forum (BVYF) – support is provided for BVYF, a group of young people representing voluntary sector youth organisations.
  • Childcare – for other areas of Barnardo’s work.

PLAYFUL IDEAS

The Playful Ideas Team works with communities to support & encourage play opportunities for children and young people.

What do we do?

  • Play – work with specific communities or neighbourhoods to work with children, young people, parents and community members to re-introduce play into the community.
  • Training – to promote the importance of play and provide practical ideas for encouraging play amongst children and young people.

EDUCATION & TRAINING SUPPORT

The Education & Training Support Team works with people aged 19 and over who wish to access education, training or employment and who need some support in order to do so. The team also provide energisers to  NEET (not in education, employment or training) young people to encourage them to access eduction, employment or training.

What do we do?

  • Assessment – used to identify support required.
  • One-to-one support – to address issues identified during the assessment and support individuals to achieve their aspirations.

VOLUNTEERING

The Project offers volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and from a range of backgrounds who freely give their time in many different ways, including helping in the office, gardening, supporting childcare and the delivery of play activities.

What do we do?

  • Recruit, train and support volunteers to undertake a variety of roles.

FAIR SHARE

The Team offers support and guidance in particular addressing issues of under age drinking and teenage pregnancy  to targeted vulnerable young people aged 19 years and under. Providing them with skills and knowledge to make informed decisions and therefore positive life choices.
