  • Blackpool Young Peoples Service and The Hub. If you are a young person – aged 18 or under – or a parent, carer, friend or professional you can contact The Hub - Blackpool’s Young People’s Drug & Alcohol Project for help and advice. Housing

  • Shelter Lancashire. National campaign for homeless people. Aims to provide housing info, advice and advocacy. Seeks new solutions to housing problems through innovative schemes and campaigns for lasting changes to housing policy practice. Contact: info@shelter.org.uk, or 01253 874324. Counselling

  • Counselling-directory website. The purpose of the site is ultimately to provide the UK with a huge counselling support network, enabling those in distress to find a counsellor close to them and appropriate for their needs. This is a free, confidential service that will hopefully encourage those in distress to seek help. The website also contains a number of sections on emotional disorders (types of distress section) and provides some useful statistics. Every counsellor on the site who has submitted their profile has either sent a copy of their qualifications and insurance cover to us, or is registered with a professional body online with recognised codes of ethics and practice, this way we can be assured of their professionalism.


Mental health, disability and special needs

  • Scope face-to-face befrienders. Providing emotional support to parents of children with disabilities and special needs through structured contact with another parent who has been trained to provide that support. Contact Yvonne Bennet on 01253 392188.

Parenting support

  • Parentline Plus. A UK registered charity which offers support to anyone parenting a child – the child's parents, step-parents, grand parents and foster parents. Parentline Plus runs a freephone helpline, courses for parents, develops innovative projects and provides a range of information. Though general telephone contact details appear to be missing the web site does contain a wealth of very practical and helpful information on the management of family chabnge and conflict, parenting teenagers, and what do do in a number of different situations that you might encounter with your child. Young mothers, mothers and female carers

  • Blackpool Life Group. Provides help with baby equipment. Their premises are at the Royal Bank of Scotland Chambers, Talbot Square. Contact Miss Bosworth on 01253 344008, or email bosworthz@acomPuserve.com.

  • MOSAC Blackpool and Fylde. A support group for mothers and safe carers of sexually abused children. Contact Mrs Sue McGurty on 01253 763180 or 767095.


Youth development and leisure

  • Young Lancashire   provides a wide range of support services to a network of registered voluntary youth organisations across Lancashire (there is no charge to register with the network):01772556127
  • Princes Trust Business Programme. Gives youths and young adults (aged 14-30) the opportunity to develop new skills, to confidence build and to enter Business start-up programmes. Contact Phil Williams on 01772 848258.
