Volunteering for Barnardo's

A volunteer reading to a child

Volunteers help Barnardo’s in a variety of ways. They volunteer directly with children and young people, in our shops or offices, or raise vital funds. Depending on your interests and skills, we can make sure that you find the right volunteering opportunity to suit you. We also have special opportunities for employee volunteering, young volunteers and university students.

Why do people volunteer?

There are many reasons why people choose to get involved. Here are just a few:

  • to support Barnardo's work and cause
  • to do something unusual and inspiring
  • to meet new people
  • to learn skills and improve their CVs.

If you speak to people who already volunteer, they will probably tell you that they do it because they love it. So why not help vulnerable children and young people, and have some fun at the same time!

Moira, one of our young volunteers, is currently writing a blog for www.do-it.org.uk. Read what she has been up to with Barnardo's recently!

Many of our current volunteer summer interns are also writing a blog. Read what they have been up to with Barnardo's recently!

But don’t take our word for it, see what you can do and let some of our volunteers tell you in their own words.

'I really enjoy the work that I do and knowing that I play a small part in helping children and young people have a better future is very rewarding'. Denise, a volunteer in our Bristol office
