Simpson Family Resource Centre
The Simpson Family Resource Centre is a day care unit that provides a service to families who need support in their parenting and in their relationships with each other. We have been operational since June 1991 and provide a range of assessment and therapeutic support services to families and children 'in need' and/or 'at risk' as defined by Article 17 of the Children (NI) Order 1995.
The Centre is located in an old house in Manse Road, Bangor, N Ireland, in its own grounds and is approx. 5 minutes walk from the centre of Bangor. It is situated in an area that offers anonymity to families. Both families and professionals regularly comment on the warm welcoming environment of the Family Centre which in turn helps reduce their anxiety about attending the Centre.

The Centre is managed by Barnardo's and funded by them, in partnership with the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust. It is the only such resource available in the North Down area. We have a large playroom for small children and a lounge, which we use for meetings. Upstairs we have a video room and two other rooms, which we use for sessions with parents and children. At the back of the house we have play den where we can work with families and older children. Outside there is an enclosed garden playspace.
Barnardo’s is a UK wide children’s charitable organisation committed to ensuring that every child can enjoy:-
- A family that can cope
- Protection from harm
- Emotional, physical and mental health
- A sense of belonging in the community
- Opportunities to learn
- Their own stake in society
The South Eastern Trust delivers statutory social work services to the North Down & Ards region of N Ireland. To find out more visit their website.
Simpson FRC also accommodates the project “What About Me?” which works with children who have been exposed to Domestic Violence. Please note we are NOT named after TV’s dysfunctional Simpson Family, but after the family who donated our fine old house!
