The Counting on credit report asks for stricter scrutiny of the pressure put on people to take out punitively high interest loans.

Barnardo¿s has made the plea to the Office of Fair Trading. The Counting on credit report follows a year-long study into child poverty which found that families have been plunged into worrying levels of debt by loan companies that prey on the poor. It comes as Britain¿s biggest doorstep lender announced on 28 July 2009 a consumer credit profits rise of 3.6 per cent, up to £52 million, in the first half of the year.
