Our Employment Training and Skills (ETS) services provide young people in Scotland with skills and qualifications they can build on and develop throughout their working life.

Watch how we helped Owen to discover his full potential

We run more than 140 diverse community-based services across Scotland, working with and supporting over 16,300 vulnerable children, young people and families.

Among them is Barnardo's Works, which supports young people to transition into the world of work, offering a range of locally based employability services. It has has offices and training bases across Scotland where we are able to deliver our employability programmes.

As of 28th June 2019, we had 194 learners in training! Meet two of them...

Apprentice Reece Hunter in a high visibility jacket and hard hat

Reece

Having joined Barnardo's Works in September 2018, Reece is now a roofing apprentice and is currently studying for his MA!

"My apprenticeship offers me the flexibility of practical on-site experience and study which I enjoy.  Attending Barnardo’s Works helped me realise I had what it takes to be successful and I am grateful for this opportunity."

Apprentice Morgan set at a computer typing on the keyboard

Morgan

Morgan left school at 16 with few qualifications. She's now working in the Housing and Property Chamber within the Glasgow Tribunals Service. Her manager Kyle McGrath says:

"SCTS (Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service) take great pride in providing a first class Modern Apprenticeship programme for our young people. Morgan has joined an exciting and dynamic environment where she will flourish and work towards completing her Modern Apprentice programme. It is a pleasure to work alongside Morgan and oversee her development within the organisation.”

Young Person’s Guarantee

Young Person's Guarantee Logo

Barnardo’s is part of the Young Persons Guarantee, both as an employer of young people and as a provider of opportunities and support to get into work.

If you are 15 to 29, we can support you to develop the personal and employment skills to gain a job or apprenticeship. We work with you on an individual basis to find the best training and employment opportunities in your area. Once you’re in work or training, we will give you ongoing support.

We have a wide range of programmes that support you every step of the way to get into the world of work. This can range from short periods of support that focus on you gaining industry related qualifications, to longer term support if you’re care experienced. Depending on your job goals and requirements these can range from six weeks to up to one year.

The Young Person’s Guarantee supports all 16-24 year olds in Scotland to find work and learning opportunities.
