About this service

Barnardo's offers support and services to young people aged 7-18 who have a substantial caring role which impacts on their educational, emotional, physical and/or social development. Support is offered through the following opportunities:
•befriending and mentoring for the young carer
•activities, outings and trips during the school holidays
•topic and activity based groups (e.g. healthy eating, self esteem, careers, etc) to support them in making positive life choices
•peer group support
•homework club to allow them dedicated space and time to complete their studies

Where required more intense support can be offered as follows:
•family intervention with an allocated Project Worker acting as an advocate
•opportunities to attend the young carers chosen activities
•access to a tutorial groups

Referrals can come directly to the project from families, schools, GPs, social services and other organisations.
