About this service
Barnardo’s Care Leavers project supports care leaver participation and engagement. We run fortnightly Care Leavers Unite Bristol (CLUB) meetings that work consistently with isolated care leavers enabling them to produce their own ideas/plans, to raise issues and implement change across Bristol.
CLUB members have identified loneliness and isolation as the biggest issue care leavers face in Bristol. So far we have commenced a number of initiatives with care leavers, including a cycling group, campaigning for free or discounted transport in Bristol and creating
Our befriender service pairs young people with befrienders to support access to activities and reduce isolation. We have recruited a range of befrienders, including those who speak the first language of unaccompanied asylum seeking care leavers.
We also administer personal budgets to promote improved mental health amongst Care Leavers. Purchases help the young people build skills, gain confidence and knowledge and help combat loneliness and isolation. They enable budget holders to have greater choice and control over their own health.
