A lasting thank you: Why Georgina is leaving a gift in her Will to Barnardo’s

“My husband was one of Barnardo's children, and I saw the difference it made.”

More than 80 years after Barnardo's first cared for her husband, Georgina* has chosen to leave a gift in her Will to help future generations of children.

For her, it's a way of recognising the role Barnardo's played in David's life and ensuring that support continues for others.

When David arrived at Barnardo's in Cardiff in 1939, he was just 18 months old. He spent much of his childhood in Barnardo's care and remained grateful throughout his life for the opportunities, support and stability it gave him.

Georgina and David met in 1960 and married three years later, spending 55 happy years together. She remembers David as a man shaped by the values Barnardo’s instilled in him, including resourcefulness, hard work, and self-reliance. He was always thinking of others and never had a bad word to say about the charity that raised him.

He always supported Barnardo’s because he knew first-hand how they helped him in his formative years. By leaving a gift to Barnardo’s in my Will can keep his legacy going, just as he would have wished.

Georgina

David passed away in 2018, and Georgina still misses him terribly. In the years since his death, she has often reflected on the role Barnardo's played in his life and the difference it made.

Her decision to leave a gift in her Will is a deeply personal tribute to the man she loved and to the charity that gave him a foundation for life.

This gift is my way of saying thank you to Barnardo’s for being there for David and helping ensure they can be there for many more children in the future.

Georgina

Today, gifts in Wills help Barnardo’s support children and young people facing challenges across the UK. Georgina hopes her gift will help ensure future generations receive the same life-changing support that helped shape David's future many years ago.

Why Iain has decided to leave a gift in his Will to Barnardo’s

Iain was helped by Barnardo's when he was a teenager. Now in his thirties he used our free Will writing service to leave a legacy that will help other children who may need our support.
