Barnardo’s DCYPPP (Disabled Children & Young People’s Participation Project) are a group of children and young people from across the Southern Trust area, who campaign and advocate for disability rights and equality. They recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Lord Mayor Mealla Campbell from Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council joined in the party.
Lord Mayor Mealla Campbell said:
“It was lovely to have the opportunity to spend the evening with the young people from DCYPPP. We had some really interesting conversations about what rights the young people find important and how vital it is that all young people are aware of what rights they have.”
Head of Barnardo’s NI Michele Janes said:
“The DCYPPP are a fantastic group of young disability ambassadors and it’s so important for us to empower and enable these young people to makes their voices heard. It was brilliant to have the Lord Mayor in attendance as it gave the young people an opportunity to speak with a local representative, ask questions and voice any issues that were concerning them. “
