The role of Domestic Abuse Commissioner will lead on driving improvements on the response to domestic abuse in the UK, championing victims and making recommendations on what more should be done to better protect victims and bring more offenders to justice.
Barnardo’s Chief Executive Javed Khan said:
“Children and young people who experience domestic abuse need specialist support, whether they live with parents or carers who are abused, or they are in an abusive relationship themselves.
“Our specialist services see first-hand the harm domestic abuse can cause to children and young people.
“Appointing a Domestic Abuse Commissioner is an important step forward and we urge the Commissioner to prioritise changing the lives of children and young people affected by domestic abuse.”
