Inspirational Barnardo’s young supporter back behind the wheel after high-speed motoring accident

Release Date: 15 Jan 2018

Barnardo’s is delighted that inspirational Formula 4 racing driver Billy Monger is back behind the wheel pursuing his dream just nine months after a serious accident.

Billy, 18, a young supporter for the UK’s leading children’s charity, suffered life changing injuries after a high-speed crash during a race at Donington Park in Derbyshire last April.

But last week the teenager was performing stunts in an exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC arena. He hopes to return to competitive racing next season, with his sights set firmly on competing in Formula 1 in the future.

Chief Executive of Barnardo’s Javed Khan said:

Billy is a truly inspirational role model to children and young people and we are delighted he has returned to the sport he loves.

Before his accident he kindly supported our work with some of the UK’s most vulnerable children, taking several young people on exciting visits to Silverstone.

It was terrible news to hear about his accident, but wonderful to learn he is back behind the wheel once again.

We can’t praise him enough for his determination and wish him the very best when he returns to competitive racing.
