Barnardo's welcomes Church of England's new anti-bullying rules

Release Date: 13 Nov 2017

The Church of England has issued new advice to its schools on transphobic and biphobic bullying.

In the guidance it says schools must take action to ensure no child is bullied because of their perceived or actual sexual orientation or gender identity.

The move has been welcomed by Barnardo's.

Barnardo's Chief Executive Javed Khan said:

Respecting the unique worth of every person is an integral part of Barnardo's values, so we wholeheartedly welcome this move by the Church of England.

At Barnardo's we fight for the rights of those who identify as LGBTQ to be able to have the same life chances and experiences as everyone else.

How you identify should not be a barrier in your life, it should be a springboard.

We work directly with young people, parents and carers, schools and local authorities to help tackle HBT bullying, and educate individuals about how to combat it to help ensure that children and young people feel safe and empowered to be their full selves.
