Barnardo's director to cook up a storm on just 1 per day

Release Date: 06 Sep 2017

A Barnardo’s director is preparing to cook up a storm by living on just 1 per day to raise money for the leading children’s charity.

Barnardo’s Director of Retail and Trading Roy Clark and friend Steve Palmer, from Kettering, hope to raise £5,000 for Barnardo’s by spending just £7 on ingredients for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 7 days.

Mr Clark, from Hertfordshire, said:

I’m getting really nervous about it now; I’ve been thinking about what I normally have to eat during the day and I think this is going to be tough.

I’ll usually have a slice of toast in the morning and then a £3 meal deal for my lunch followed by a meal in the evening.

So spending just £1 per day really does not seem very much at all.

The pair are busy coming up with meal plans and shopping lists to help them during the challenge – the only thing which will be considered to be “free” during the week will be water; everything else will need to be included in their £1 per day budget.

Mr Clark added:

This is going to be a difficult 7 days. We are going to have to do a lot of preparation so we can budget for the week and know what we are going to be cooking and eating each day.

But we hope to raise £5,000 towards Barnardo’s. Without fundraising and donations, Barnardo’s would not be able to help the thousands of children who need our support every year.

We really would urge you to dig deep and support us so we can continue our vital work.
