Barnardo’s is Sainsbury’s Corporate Services ‘Charity of the Year’

Release Date: 21 Aug 2017

Leading children’s charity Barnardo’s has been chosen by Sainsbury’s Corporate Services Division as its ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2017-18.

The Sainsbury's Corporate Services Division will support Barnardo’s through colleague fundraising, volunteering and pro bono work to help the charity with its work to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people.

The partnership officially launched with a Grease sing-along film night and more than 80 Sainsbury’s colleagues are expected to get involved with the division’s fundraising efforts over the coming year.

Colleagues will take part in the Barnardo’s National Store Wars Challenge, which will see them compete against other organisations to raise the most money for the charity by “taking over” a Barnardo’s charity shop for the day. They will also hold events such as a Zumbathon, cake sale, and carol singing at Christmas.

Sainsbury’s will also offer Barnardo’s pro-bono support, such as reviewing health and safety processes and practices in shops and providing retail marketing insights.

Javed Khan, Barnardo’s Chief Executive, said:

We’re thrilled to be chosen as Sainsbury’s Corporate Services Division Charity of the Year for 2017-18.

We support the most disadvantaged children, young people and families across the UK. This includes young victims of sexual exploitation, children who look after a family member and those leaving care.

We believe every child should have a positive future and at Barnardo’s we help enable them to achieve that. But it wouldn’t be possible without the support of companies such as Sainsbury’s helping us raise the funds to keep our vital work going.

Nick Grant, Head of Legal Services for Sainsbury’s Corporate Services Division, added:

We are delighted to be working with children’s charity Barnardo’s.

The partnership offers a range of opportunities from volunteering at children’s services, mentoring, pro-bono work with the charity’s retail division and fundraising to support vital work in communities across the UK.

It’s great to know we can be so closely involved in the charity’s work and help make a real difference.
