Initial Location of Post
Home based, with a requirement to work across the local authorities where the National FGM Centre is providing services.

History of Service
The National FGM Centre has been funded by the Department for Education (DfE) between April 2015 and July 2017 to deliver a system change in social work services for girls affected by female genital mutilation and their families, working with statutory agencies, government departments and local community organisations. The Centre successfully submitted an application for further funding to March 2020, with a revised structure to develop and extend the Centre's activities.

Objectives of Service
The National FGM Centre, funded through the Department of Education's Children's Social Care Innovation Programme and run jointly by Barnardo's and the Local Government Association, aims to inform and improve policy and practice at local and national levels by identifying, generating and sharing high quality evidence on what works to prevent and tackle female genital mutilation (FGM) and other harmful traditional practices (HTPs) such as breast ironing/flattening and abuse linked to faith and belief.

Initial Specific Responsibilities
The Team Manager will be responsible for managing Social Workers and Senior Practitioners located across a number of local authorities. The post holder may also be required to hold a small caseload of more complex cases.

Supplementary Information

- Post holder must be social work qualified.
- Extensive experience in high risk social work, ideally with FGM and or HTPs.
- Willing to travel regularly in line with work requirements.
