Fostering in North West England

“James fitted into our family perfectly and the kids were brilliant. There were compromises we had to make with James being in a wheelchair but Andrew and Lisa, our birth children, never complained. I’m pretty sure that fostering has helped them to be better people. It’s made them who they are today.” – Sue and Billy, foster carers

Too many children in the North West may never experience the stability and care that we take for granted because there aren't enough carers to meet their needs.

By fostering, you can make a huge difference to a local child's life. And if you choose to foster with Barnardo's, we'll be here every step of the way.

“We wanted to give a child a chance. As well as giving a lot to that child you get so much in return. I’d say to people who are thinking of fostering, don’t be afraid. The Barnardo’s workers are fantastic. The training is first rate and there’s always someone at the end of the phone to give advice and support.” “We both felt that fostering would be a real challenge for us but one that would be so rewarding. Plus, we like a challenge! We are fortunate to have a happy family life and wanted to provide that same environment for a child who needed it.” - Whaeeda and Abbas, foster carers

Children in need of fostering

Teenagers

By fostering a teenager in the North West, you can help them to develop the skills they need for the future.

Children with challenging behaviours

Children in care may have experienced abuse or neglect and everyone copes differently with past traumas. The support of a loving foster carer who understands the cause of demanding behaviours can give young people hope for the future.

Children with physical and/or learning disabilities

We are looking for foster carers who are willing to help meet the needs of children with disabilities.

Types of foster placements

As a foster carer in the North West, you could offer:

  • emergency placements
  • planned short breaks
  • long term placements
  • placements for children that have been trafficked and / or sexually exploited.
