Currently over half the children with adoption plans in England are to be placed with their siblings. We need adoptive parents to offer caring and stable homes for brothers and sisters.
Fostering to adopt/Early Permanent Placement (EPP)
The majority of children who come into care are placed in foster homes first. We will work with prospective adopters so that they are approved as both foster carer and an adopter. A child will be placed with them as a foster placement initially with the final plan being decided by the court. If the child is to be returned to their birth family then you will be helped to facilitate this. If the plan is for adoption then the child will stay with and be adopted by you.
Our trained social workers will discuss with you whether EPP or conventional adoption is the best route for you.
Children with complex needs
Children in care may have previously suffered neglect and/or abuse and every child copes differently with traumas in their past. We need adoptive parents, who are willing to understand how this may affect children and the way they need to be parented. Barnardo's will provide expertise, support and training every step of the way to help you understand the child's needs. Adoption can help a child move on from the past and build an exciting future.
Children with a disability or uncertain developmental futures
We are looking for adopters who can help meet the needs of children with additional needs. We offer ongoing support and training so that together, we can help a child with a disability reach their full potential.
Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) children
We need adoptive parents to give stable and supportive homes to children from BME backgrounds helping them thrive. You could transform the lives of children in care from African, Caribbean, Asian and mixed ethnicities.
We work with local authorities to help the most vulnerable children fulfill their full potential. For more information download our statement of purpose.
