Your decision to adopt can change the life of a vulnerable child in the North East.
Barnardo's welcomes all applicants, regardless of relationship status, sexuality, beliefs or ethnicity.
We train new adoptive parents as they step into their roles, and give ongoing support after children have been placed. Our expert advice, counselling and therapy can help you bond with your child once they have moved in.
Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) children
The number of children in care from BME backgrounds grows each year.
We need adoptive parents to give stable and supportive homes to children, helping them thrive. You could transform the lives of children in care from African, Caribbean, Asian and mixed ethnicities.
Children with challenging behaviours
Children in care may have previously suffered neglect and sexual or emotional abuse. Every child copes differently with traumas in their past.
We need adoptive parents who are willing to understand demanding behaviours. Barnardo's will provide expertise, support and training every step of the way. Adoption can help a child with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, enabling them to move on from the past and build an exciting future.
Children with physical and/or learning disabilities
All children need and deserve secure and loving homes.
We are looking for adopters who can help meet the needs of children with additional requirements. We offer ongoing support and training so that together, we can help a child with a disability reach their full potential.
You can help keep children together by adopting siblings. We need adoptive parents to offer caring and stable homes for brothers and sisters.
We work with local authorities to help the most vulnerable children fulfil their full potential. Read our
